Social network sites are great places to interact with your friends online, find old friends to connect with and share photos with. But are you sure that your information and photos are only seen by the people you trust? Is it being viewed by a stranger? Earlier this year, a social networking site called Facebook had a privacy update. This new update caused many security issues, this caused Facebook to create a new privacy system which concerned a lot of users and caused them to doubt how safe they are on Facebook.
When you think of your safety on Facebook, you do wonder if you are safe or not. You have your name, personal interests, and your photos online that strangers can view, see what you look like and what kind of person you are. Some facebook users do change their last name to something else to hide their identity but still keep their first name so, their friends could still find them. Most users put up a block to hide their information and on who can view their pictures. Some users actually don't think of their profile's safety and have no privacy settings on so, anyone can view there profile. By doing this, you make yourself open for random strangers writing on your wall, viewing your photos and gaining stalkers online and offline. People who don't have Facebook are lucky that they won't experience any privacy issues but still have to be cautious on what they do on the Internet.
Some tips on how to protect yourself on social networks are to view your privacy settings and set them accordingly on your preferences. By doing this, you avoid any cyber bullying and harassment. Be careful of what you write on your social network because if your friends read it and take what you wrote in the wrong sense there would be confusion and mixed feelings between one another. Make sure you are posting appropriate pictures of yourself.
In the end, it is important to always protect your privacy online no matter what social network you use, and to be cautious on what you post because you don't want negative attention.
