Digital Actors

1. Is this acting or is this animation?
I'd have to say that this involves elements from both acting and animation.  I say this because for this movie the actors were given special equipment to act with, the equipment that they wearing sensed each motion and facial expression they made which were than transferred into a computer that turned them into animation.

2. Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?
I think that based on this movie that in a way you could say that they do deserve an award, but at the same time i would say that they don't really deserve them because they were made from the actions a real person did with equipment that were mentioned in question 1.

3. Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?
Personally in my opinion i believe that one day human actors may become obsolete because, as shown in the trailer for Assassins Creed Brotherhood, the animation in our day and age has become so amazing that it looks like the characters in the game are played by real people.

  1. For question 2, I don't think the fact that equipments used on them would matter when giving out the awards. I mean it was still them that acted. It's their voices, facial expressions and all that that should matter.

  2. Personally I don't believe actors would ever become obsolete in the future because moviegoers pay to see their favourite actor star in roles in movies and people want to see real emotion portrayed in movies. If actors were to become obsolete then, the whole movie industry would have converted to the Pixar animation designers for help creating and animating another big budget movie. Well, that's just my theory.
